Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today that two more areas of the state - including the Capital Region - are ready to begin moving into Phase II of the post-pandemic reopening process this week.
Western New York has received the go ahead to move into the next phase tomorrow, with the Capital Region - Albany, Columbia, Greene, Saratoga, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Warren, Washington counties - following suit the next day (Wednesday, June 3).
Both regions have been in Phase I for about two weeks. Phase II includes certain retail stores, hair salons and barbershops - as long as certain safety and social distancing restrictions are followed.
Also allowed in this Phase: Professional services, finance and insurance, administrative support services, and real estate transactions. For additional guidance, details and specifics, click here.
"ll the numbers look good there," Cuomo said. "We're going to run them by our global team to make sure they're as good as we think they are."
The Cuomo administration has enlisted the assistance of two international public health experts to review reopening data and formally determine whether regions are ready to move on to the next phase of the reopening process.
